When a playful pufferfishâs actions cause a snowball effect disrupting the peace of the other sea creatures, itâs up to the ocean and a baby whale to restore quiet once more in this delightfully funny picture book companion to The Quiet Forest.
Deep beneath the waves, a pufferfish putters alone. A playful puffer in a quiet, nothing-much-happening ocean. UntilâŠone small pop! sets off a chain of outrageous events, causing the whole ocean to have a very frazzled day indeed!
Can the sea creatures find a way to bring quiet back to their underwater home?

I adore this book! â
â
In a playful way it illustrates for kids that even when they have the best of intentions, not everyone will âgetâ them and want to be their friend and that is okay! It is a twist on the classic moby-dick story but this time from the whaleâs perspective trying to make friends with the crew on a boat. No matter what the whale does, the crew isnât having it and so finally the whale decides to go off in search of a friend who will accept him just the way he is! Clever, hilarious and huggable â highly recommend!â

Highlights:â
A hilarious riff on a literary classicâ
A story about friendship and belongingâ
Finding those who accept you as you areâ
Big personality. Even bigger heart.â

I wish I could just give Bartleby a big hug! What an adorable character! He beautifully illustrates for kids that some just need to do things in their own way and in their own time and that is perfectly okay. It lets kids know that it is okay to stand apart and be themselves but also to join in if and when they decide they are ready. â
â
Highlights:â

The quiet power of saying âI prefer not toââ

Feeling things deeply isnât easy as this brilliant new picture book perfectly illustrates but it can also be pretty wonderful. âAnd when Pia was happy, it was like her whole heart lit up!â It also shows that for some kids those intense feelings can lead to some intense reactions. I love that this book shows the disappointment and the big feelings that follow an incident but also models how parents and kids can work through this difficult time together with the care, compassion and thoughtfulness that we know and love from Dr. Becky â one of my very favorite parenting experts and author of this book. Highly recommend.â

Highlights:â
A compassionate look at deeply feeling kidsâ

Exploring emotional intensity with honestyâ
Building connection in the hardest momentsâ
